During the finale episode of The Office, when Andy Bernard says, “I wish there was a way to know you are in the good old days, before you have actually left them.” - he frames a sentiment that resonates deeply with all of us.

This quote represents a universal feeling - a suppressed awareness, that the moments we often take for granted might be the best of our lives.

In the rush of daily life, it’s easy to overlook the calmness in the ordinary. The continuous dopamine dose that we get from social media has left us always craving for more. And to satisfy the same, we are always caught up in the hustle, looking ahead to the next milestone - often unaware that the present is something we’ll miss one day.

And it’s only in hindsight that we appreciate the simple joys, small victories, and everyday interactions that made those days special.

But what if we could shift our perspective? What if we also start to appreciate the journey in addition to being focused on just the goal? What if we could recognize that today, right now, is part of those “good old days”?

We might find contentment in understanding that these moments, no matter how ordinary, are as good as it gets.

These are the moments that we miss from our past. And these are the moments that, years from now, we’ll look back on with a smile - for the simplicity and the happiness they held and wish we could experience them just once more.  

Because, in the end, the good old days are right here, happening as we speak.

I, too, did that, and I am sure you also did.

I promised myself I would stay fit, be a good photographer, read good literature, tell good stories, travel to places, and what not. Some of these were aspirations and others were career goals.

But reading the comments on the video gave me a whole new perspective.
